StreetNaut: Orchard Central, 17 October

When I exited Orchard Central at about 5:30pm today, I saw a group of cosplayers in front of the main entrance. (We shall leave aside what I was doing at Orchard Central in the first place, although co-bloggers Anthony and Edward can easily guess by my drastically-reduced wallet. Phantasy Star Portable 2 GET~) I admit the primary reason I noticed them is because of the Naruto cosplayer in show-accurate bright orange, and I have no idea how that works for the whole Ninja Master Of Stealth thing, but I digress.

If you are part of the group who was there, please do contact us. We’d love to hear from you, and any clarifications or corrections will be put up as soon as possible.

Trailers: Space Battleship Yamato, Fan-made live-action Pokémon

[youtube tbupyeGlBPA]

The latest live-action Space Battleship Yamato movie trailer, starring Takuya Kimura and Meisa Kuroki. This full trailer includes the movie’s theme song, Love Lives, written and sung by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. The movie is set to be released in Japan on the 1st of December this year. For more cast and plot details, you can check out my earlier post.

A somewhat “intersting” take on Pokémon. Ash struggles in a world where Pokémon fights have been outlawed. Many Pokémon characters are featured in the trailer, including Misty, Brock, Team Rocket and Mewtwo.

Thoughts: A rather bizarre and humorous interpretation of Pokémon. If this ever translates into a real movie, it’ll likely bomb as per the recent live-action adaptations of Dragonball and King of Fighters. Space Battleship Yamato on the other hand seems destined for box-office greatness…in Japan at least. No release dates have been set for Singapore or any other Asian countries save for Hong Kong (22 March 2010 @ the Hong Kong International Film and Television Market, likely trying to promote or sell it to potential distributors). No release date has been set for the US either, despite its popularity back in the 197os and 80s as Star Blazers. The only other country with a release date according to IMDb is Brazil, with the film set to be released there on the 31st of December, 2010.

The process of fansubbing

For us to better understand fansubs, let’s examine how a typical fansub is created, from start to finish. Jama, co-leader of fansub group AnimeYoshi, shares with us how they are fansubbing “The Sacred Blacksmith”, an anime which was broadcast in Japan.

(This is part of an article I did for my magazine journalism class last year…full article will be up soon. Due to privacy issues, I am using the online handles of those I have interviewed.)

The Windows 7 Theme Song

[youtube I7aJ_vjIXwc]

Nanami Madobe (voiced by Nana Mizuki) has released a single, “Nanairo Generator“, as Microsoft tries to make use of as many “nana”-related puns and gags as they possibly can. The limited-edition single was released with the DSP version of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Yes, this is the song you hear in the background of the commercial.

I think it’s quite catchy, although it’s not anything particularly innovative. The lyrics are pretty standard “let’s do our best, yay~”.

How far we have come since the early days of OS-tans.

Edited since apparently I can’t embed the Youtube video. Sadface.

AC: See, this is what happens when you are not around for Matafleur’s WordPress101 class…anyways I’ve embedded the video…

DK: No, it’s what happens when I am too blur to check what plugins we already have. Thanks for the edit, Ant.

Random Stuff: Who’s your waifu?

At Maiwaifu, you can find out not just who your future 2D wife is but also when you’ll marry her!

In my case: Anthony Chia is destined to marry Yuki Nagato on December 23, 2012 おめでとう^o^/ !!

Surely, it must be fate…

DK says: DKellis is destined to marry Hayate Yagami (from Lyrical Nanoha). I am… surprisingly okay with this.

Life with Tenshi: Mapo Donburi

Welcome to my new segment, Life with Tenshi. This will be where I will do stuff which are associated with the character Tenshi (a.k.a Kanade Tachibana, the former student council president) from the anime, Angel Beats!. (Whether this segment will last or not is of course, dependent upon the circumstances I find myself in…) As seen from the above picture, today’s Life with Tenshi is going to be about Mapo Tofu. How software companies should sell their products…

Yes…perhaps it is time for me to upgrade to Windows 7…

For those who don’t know, that’s Nanami Madobe, Windows 7′s official mascot character voiced by Nana Mizuki. The Nanami Madobe customization theme has been available in the Japanese premium sets of the Windows 7 Ultimate Edition operating system.

DK says: Sadly Nanami is only available with the Japanese region of Windows 7. I suppose if we’re willing to do some sort of crash course in the language, this might be an option.

I do like that Nanami is the first OS-tan-esque character to be featured as an official mascot. I suppose ME-tan is too embarrassing for Microsoft.

Also because I know some people might be wondering, the storekeeper in the video is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa.
