Fans around the globe are snapping up copies of the Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners BD Box like hotcakes, undeterred by the JPY52,500 (US$629) price tag. According to Anime News Network, 25,000 copies of the Blu-ray were sold during the period of January 31 – February 6, landing it at the weekly #2 spot for Oricon’s top-selling Blu-ray charts.
I, Glimmerous.Fop, was one of those crazy 25,000 people.
Spanish fan Soth, was one of the first fans in the world to post images of his BD Box shipment on his blog, on 5 February. But what Soth, and many other fans forgot to highlight, was the incredible cardboard box packaging of the BD Box:
This is just too good. When was the last time you’ve seen a cardboard box such as this?? It even comes with a nice carrying handle at the top. Brilliant piece of work.
I have not yet managed to view all eight BDs since receiving it on 8 February, except for the first BD (movie 1). As soon as I can find the endurance and time to watch all ten hours+ of movies and bonus features on the BD Box, you can expect me to follow up with a full, written review.
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with the rest of these picture shots of my BD Box and its contents, and a quick fact-sheet summary of the KnK BD Box.
Kara no Kyoukai BD Box fact sheet:
- The BD Box comes with eight Blu-ray discs, a Visual Chronicle artbook, and a small leaflet advertising a new KnK soundtrack that will be released on 2 March.
- Amazon.JP appears to be one of the few online stores that is still selling the BD Box (almost all other retailers are sold out). It also has the cheapest price with a 27%-off discount (JPY38,497).
- The US import version, sold by Rightstuf, comes with an extra translation booklet that translates the Japanese text in the artbook. This version has also sold out.
- Animate and Sofmap, two Japanese retailers, were giving out extra store-exclusive KnK merchandise for customers who pre-purchased the BD Box from their store. You can view the image of the merchandise below (taken from Facebook user Minh Le, from the Kara no Kyoukai – The Garden of Sinners FB page):
