Summer 2010 Anime Season Previews

Stay at home and watch anime! Don’t get sunburnt like Azusa…

I kind of missed the Spring 2010 preview due to school but I shall make it up to you guys by at least coming up with a (hopefully, more than) semi-decent preview of the upcoming anime this Summer. I will be focusing on the animes which interests me as well as the major anime series. Synopsis are from AniDB or ANN unless otherwise stated.

As usual, the anime will be listed in chronological order based on the dates stated on AniDB.

The process of fansubbing

For us to better understand fansubs, let’s examine how a typical fansub is created, from start to finish. Jama, co-leader of fansub group AnimeYoshi, shares with us how they are fansubbing “The Sacred Blacksmith”, an anime which was broadcast in Japan.

(This is part of an article I did for my magazine journalism class last year…full article will be up soon. Due to privacy issues, I am using the online handles of those I have interviewed.)

Welcome to the SPACE SHOW first 22 minutes

[youtube pTfqcx8LMHs]

The Aniplex USA Youtube channel has started streaming the first 22 minutes of their latest feature film, Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW.

Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW is the first feature-length animated film from the creator of R.O.D and Kamichu! (Director Koji Masunari, writer Hideyuki Kurata and character designer Masashi Ishihama). The film will be animated by A-1 Pictures (So-Ra-No-Wo-To, Valkyria Chronicles) and produced by Aniplex (Bleach, Durarara!!). Susan Boyle will be contributing her song “Who I Was Born To Be” as the film’s theme. The film will open in Japan this Saturday.

Thoughts: Watched the first couple of minutes and it seems to be a promising film. It seems somewhat similar to MADHOUSE’s Summer Wars in terms of animation with a Ghibli-esque storyline (At least, this is what I can garner from the somewhat poor quality Youtube video). No news so far though as to whether it’ll be shown in Singapore theatres…

Note: If the video doesn’t work, watch it at Youtube instead and switch the resolution to 240p.

Redline movie trailer

Trailer for MADHOUSE’s upcoming car-racing anime film Redline. It is directed by Takeshi Koike (Animatrix – World Record, Trava) with Takuya Kimura voicing the lead character, JP. The film will open in Japan this October.

Thoughts: It garnered rave reviews after advance screenings at international film festivals. What piqued my interest was ANN’s Tim Maughan describing it as “potentially one of the most daring and important anime movies for a very, very long time”. I am hopeful that it’ll eventually be screened in Singapore…

The Windows 7 Theme Song

[youtube I7aJ_vjIXwc]

Nanami Madobe (voiced by Nana Mizuki) has released a single, “Nanairo Generator“, as Microsoft tries to make use of as many “nana”-related puns and gags as they possibly can. The limited-edition single was released with the DSP version of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Yes, this is the song you hear in the background of the commercial.

I think it’s quite catchy, although it’s not anything particularly innovative. The lyrics are pretty standard “let’s do our best, yay~”.

How far we have come since the early days of OS-tans.

Edited since apparently I can’t embed the Youtube video. Sadface.

AC: See, this is what happens when you are not around for Matafleur’s WordPress101 class…anyways I’ve embedded the video…

DK: No, it’s what happens when I am too blur to check what plugins we already have. Thanks for the edit, Ant.

Random Stuff: Who’s your waifu?

At Maiwaifu, you can find out not just who your future 2D wife is but also when you’ll marry her!

In my case: Anthony Chia is destined to marry Yuki Nagato on December 23, 2012 おめでとう^o^/ !!

Surely, it must be fate…

DK says: DKellis is destined to marry Hayate Yagami (from Lyrical Nanoha). I am… surprisingly okay with this.

Original Inuyasha anime series to air on Animax-Asia

Thoughts: Sounds cool. I never had the chance to actually watch the original series in its entirety so this will be a good chance for me to catch up on some of the episodes I’ve missed (Mainly the 2nd half of the series). What’s not known though is whether it’s a dub or a sub…
