STGCC taken over by New York Comic Con organisers

STGCC 2010

Reed Exhibitions has announced that they have acquired the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC) from local company Play Imaginative. Reed Exhibitions are a US-based events company who have organized various pop-culture events such as the New York Comic Con (a.k.a NYCC, not to be mistaken for the more famous San Diego Comic Con) and the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (a.k.a C2E2, which is actually happening right now across the pacific…).

Thoughts: Interesting to see what this would entail for STGCC. According to its wikipedia entry, NYCC is a for-profit event, meaning I probably won’t see much of a change in terms of the focus on merchandising. What I am looking forward to is their guest list. Would they consider bringing in A-Listers like Neil Gaiman and Joss Whedon to a Singaporean convention? Unlikely, but we can hope…

Current Wish List: Would like to see some Doctor Who guests..lol. Maybe David Tennant since BBC Entertainment is still showing the previous season. Maybe Russell T Davies or Steven Moffat if possible….
Anime guests would be interesting as the event is not anime-centred so I doubt they have the drawing power of AFA when it comes to A-Listers (Then again, would you consider the K-On! cast A-Listers? Hmm…). Maybe some of the lower profile people would be nice, perhaps Ayumi Fujimura (likely since she’s the lead in Maid-sama which Animax is simulcasting)? Heck, maybe even Miyuki Sawashiro or Rie Tanaka? (Yes, my otaku blood is burning brightly)
