Evangelion 2.22 BD/DVD release details

[youtube xMLFOPS58-g]

At the recent Tokyo International Anime Fair, King Records screened a promotional video for their release of the Evangelion 2.22 BD/DVD. Extras will include deleted scenes, the “Noguchi ver.” of the “I Would Give You Anything” scene, the recording script as well as the trailers and TV commercials. The extended version of the movie will run for 111 minutes and 49 seconds compared to the theatrical release of 108 minutes. The first pressing will include film strips from the theatrical release. The BD/DVD release is slated for 26th May. (Source: ANN)

Thoughts: Not sure which is the “I Would Give You Anything” scene but it does sound interesting. The film strip bonus isn’t anything new, with both the Evangelion 1.0 DVD release and the Haruhi movie having had similar promotions. Looks like all we have to do now is wait for the Funimation release…which will likely come only next year…

Lucky Star spinoff: Lucky Racer

Lucky Star

Seiyū Minoru Shiraishi will launch Lucky Racer, a live-action cart-racing series featuring the Lucky Star staff and seiyūs, on April 2nd. This series of TV shorts will run within the Seitokai no Ichizon timeslot on the BS11 satellite channel (Fridays, midnight). The Kadokawa Anime Channel will then stream each Lucky Racer episode from April 3rd onwards. (Source: ANN)

Thoughts: Sounds awesome…scenes like the Kagami dream sequence in the OVA still leaves me in stitches no matter how many times I watch it. Looking forward to Aya Hirano versus Emiri Katou…if it ever happens anyway.

DK says: Live-action cart-racing?

Well, I suppose adding in “Gravity” as a soundtrack will automatically make it awesome.

Review: Professor Layton And The Eternal Diva

Professor Layton and The Eternal Diva poster

(K17: You do understand that I HAD to choose this poster as it was the only one which had Maki Horikita in it…)

(Crossposted verbatim to my other blog.)

It is probably just a coincidence that the (relatively minor side) character who desires Eternal Life so she can stay forever young and beautiful is voiced by Kikuko “Eien ni 17-sai” Inoue.

Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva was kindly brought to Singapore by Encore Films and Golden Village, although I doubt GV actually knows what to do with a movie like this, since it’s being shown in a limited number of theatres… let’s see… (*checks SMS*) Plaza Singapura, Marina Square, Bishan Junction 8, Tampines Mall, Yishun, and VivoCity. Part of the reason I’m posting this is because I want this film to succeed wildly, so this sort of thing will get a wider release next time.

I watched the movie with Kindaichi17 and GFoppy at Bishan. Don’t ask why. Read More →

Mini review: Animax Asia’s dub of K-On!

K-On! group shot

I had originally planned to watch Animax’s dub of K-On! yesterday but I totally forgot about it and ended up playing FF XIII (“Moms are tough”). However, I did manage to catch the 2nd half of episode two in a repeat telecast this morning (which unfortunately featured only the four main characters so I can’t comment on the rest). Please note that this is the Animax-Asia dub and not the US one (According to what I know, it hasn’t been licensed in the US yet…).

Thoughts: In general I thought the dubbing was pretty good though unremarkable (Maybe its just me since I prefer subs to dubs). Mio’s and Yui’s voice actresses were probably the ones which sounded the best. Ritsu’s and Mugi’s were good but less distinctive as compared to the previous two. No gripes with the script quality so far. In general, not perfect but a pretty good dub all round. I will probably get a better perspective once I get to hear more of Ui, Nodoka and Sawako-sensei as well as Azusa when she is introduced.
