I am Gundam!
Together with a couple of friends, I found myself at EOY ’09, the last major cosplay event of the year on our small little island. (For all pictures, click thumbnails to expand)
As mentioned before, EOY (End Of Year) is one of Singapore’s annual cosplay events and this year, EOY’09 was held at the National Library’s Drama Centre on the 26th of December.
Of course since its a cosplay event, it is of course the main focus there. Here are some cosplay pictures for your viewing pleasure.
I made it just in time to watch the Yui Makino (Tsubasa’s Sakura) mini-performance, featuring songs like Amrita (Tsubasa Chronicle the Movie: The Princess of the Country of Birdcages ending theme) and Fuwa Fuwa, her new single to be released on March 2010. Wasn’t really keen on paying $49 to watch the actual concert (which I couldn’t take pictures of anyway…).
For EOY’s cosplay competition, the individual winner was a cosplayer playing the Final Fantasy VII character, Rude (Hmm…) and the group champions were THE GENESIS OF THE WAR OF GENESIS team (Not sure what they are cosplaying but I heard their performance was great, anyone care to elaborate?).
BTW, the guy who is giving out the prizes is the organiser of the event, Tim Wong.

Unfortunately, I missed the Black Alice Loli Fashion Runway. Will try to see if I can acquire pictures from other sources.

My new K-On buttons…
Thoughts: A friend of mine who went to the event (Willis) thought it was a little bland. I think one should remember that it is a cosplay event first and foremost so one can’t expect a full blown anime convention like AFA. I really thought it was good that there were many doujin groups (both local and across the causeway) there selling their products (I bought a set of buttons featuring the K-On cast). Its always nice to support amateur artists in their trade and I thought EOY was more like a fan-based event as opposed to AFA, which seemed to be more of a money-making machine for Bandai, etc.
In general, I thought it was okay, especially since they managed to bring down Yui Makino to perform. If there was one thing that I didn’t like about the event would be the entrance fee, which cost $15 on the day itself (pre-order was $12). I thought that it perhaps was a bit pricey, considering it is a smaller event but costs the same as AFA ’09.
On a side note, I’ve got to improve my photo taking skills considering I’ve got a success rate of like 30-40%. I think we should also have some sort of watermark for our pictures, perhaps?
