Not exactly breaking news but better late than never…
An interesting graphic was found on the Code Geass mobile phone site announcing that a new Code Geass project has been green-lit.

The translation (by Anime News Network) is as follows:
“New Code Geass
Project Launch Green-Lit!
Wait for more info in 2010!!”

This is followed up by a seemingly more detailed announcement on the official Code Geass website by Code Geass producer Yoshitaka Kawaguchi.
Update: According to Anime News Network, Yoshitaka Kawaguchi’s says that “the new project will feature the simultanteous releases of comic series, music, new products under development, and visual works. More details will be revealed in the January issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine, which ships this week.”.
Thoughts: I really enjoyed Code Geass season 1, with all the plot twists they kept throwing at you. Code Geass R2, however, seemed to be a lot more convoluted than it should be. Of course, some of the fans would know about the controversy surrounding the production of Code Geass R2 (Since the original website seems to be down, I’ve linked it to a Google cache of the website), which would likely explain R2′s plot direction. Personally, I am hoping it will be a reboot/retelling of R2, what Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass creator/director) originally envisioned Code Geass R2 to be. I would say that Sunrise and Bandai owe it to Taniguchi to at least give him the anime he originally wanted to create, after making so much money for them…
